Scholarship Categories & Study Duration
Ø Scholarship for master’s degree programs for 2-3 academic years
Ø Scholarship for doctoral degree programs for 3 academic years
Note: The instruction language is mainly Chinese. Applicants are required to take one-year Chinese language course prior to the academic study if their Chinese is not qualified enough for the program study. Only by passing the examinations after the Chinese language course, can they start their academic studies.
Scholarship Coverage & Criteria
Scholarship holders are exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, laboratory experiment fee, internship fee, fee for accommodation on campus, and are provided with Comprehensive Medical Insurance for International Students in China.
Ø Note:Monthly living allowance is granted to the students through the host institution at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):
- Master’s degree students: CNY 3,000 Yuan
- Doctoral degree students: CNY 3,500 Yuan

Ø Non-Chinese citizen in good health
Ø Not a student in any Chinese universities or schools at the time of application
Ø Education background and age limit
—Applicants for master’s degree program scholarship must have bachelor’s degree, under the age of 35.
—Applicants for doctoral degree program scholarship must have master’s degree, under the age of 40 years.

Application & Recruitment Procedures
Ø Log on to the official website of China Scholarship Council (http://laihua.csc.edu.cn), register for username and password before logging into the system.
Ø After logging into the system with your registered username and password, read the Online Application Guidance carefully and follow the steps.
Ø After reading the Online Application Guidance, please click the button “NEXT” and select the Chinese Government Scholarship.
Ø Click the button “NEXT” and fill in your personal information as requested. AGENT NO. is one of the most crucial part of your online application, which is listed in the first blank under the “PERSONAL DATA”. The AGENT NO. of Southwest University is 10635. Please make sure that you fill it in correctly otherwise you will not be able to continue your online application.(Use English only)
Ø Click the button “NEXT” and fill in the other information (education background and employment record, language proficiency and proposed study in China, etc.) truly, correctly and completely following the steps listed on the left of the page. Attention: The applicants are required to select the disciplines before choosing their majors. Any inquiry about the disciplines and majors please refer to the Disciplines Index, which could be downloaded from “Help”.
Ø Preview the application form after finishing it and then submit it online.
Ø Download the finished application form by clicking the button “DOWNLOAD APPLICATION” and print it out for two copies.
Ø Prepare other supporting documents as required and send the full package of application documents to International Students Admission Office, Southwest University
Ø SWU organizes expert panel to appraise the documents and make a proposed list of applicants, and then reports to Chongqing Municipal Education Committee and China Scholarship Council for final appraisal and approval.
Ø Getting the approval, SWU announces the result at the website of http://www.hndrsm.com, informs the successful applicants

Ø Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in duplicate, including one photocopy)
Ø Photocopies of attained highest diploma, graduation certificate or diploma certificate. University students or employed applicants should provide proof of studying or employment. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English (in duplicate, including one photocopy)
Ø Photocopies of the previous academic transcripts. Applicants for doctoral degree program scholarship need to provide photocopies of their master study transcripts. Applicants for master’s degree program scholarship need to provide photocopies of their undergraduate transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translation versions in Chinese or English (in duplicate, including one photocopy).
Ø Study or research plan in Chinese or in English (no less than 800 words)
Ø Two recommendation letters in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. Recommendation letters should have the signatures of professors or associate professors (in duplicate, including one photocopy);
Ø CD of works. Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own works, and applicants for fine arts must submit a CD of their own works (including two sketches, two color paintings and two other works);
Ø Photocopy of HSK certificate or other certificates of Chinese proficiency (if any)
Ø Published academic papers or other academic achievements (original or photocopy if any)
Ø Two recent photos (white background, in passport size). Please write down the applicant’s name and major to study at the back of the photo.
Ø Photocopy of the applicant’s passport
Ø Two photocopies of Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (The applicant keeps the original for future visa application). The form issued by Chinese quarantine authority canbe downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn or http://www.hndrsm.com. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Physical Examination Record for Foreigner. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration as they plan to take the medical examination.

Application Deadline
The application deadline is around the end of March and beginning of April, which varies a little from year to year (date is subject to the local mail stamp chop in terms of airmail)
